Highlights this week includes a two-hour Dragnet special featuring two different story lines (The Big Mask, The Big Red) which originally were spread out over two weeks back in the early 1950s.

Hey folks, we indeed are rolling into yet another year of Golden Age Of Radio Shows on Sirius XM 82. 2012 will mark the 10th year of the channel and it also will mark my 5th year as host of When Radio Was (now heard on about 200 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada.) Gonna be a great year, I just feel it.

Some of the highlights for the first week of they year include the following: a centennial birthday week celebration for Danny Thomas with a couple of episodesof The Bickersons.

(A side note: I finally found a little time to start playing L.A. Noire, the video game I consulted on, and it is so great to walk into a place of business or climb into a car and hear The Bickersons, Bergen & McCarthy and others playing on the radios within the game. You also can hear vintage commercials, altered by the writers, but still many of you will recognize them. L.A. Noire truly captures 1947 Los Angeles in shockingly realistic detail; the buildings, the cars, the people, etc)

Hey folks; since we begin weeks on Sundays, this one actually starts on Christmas Day and most of those details are in the previous posting, but here are some can’t miss highlights for Sunday December 25th -

Noon ET (11am CT, 10am MT, 9am PT) – Dragnet’s Christmas episode “Big Little Jesus” from December of 1953.

4pm ET (3pm CT, 2pm MT, 1pm PT) – Radio City Playhouse’s version of Paul Gallico’s “Twas The Night Before Christmas” (you know the one about the Christmas goats!) It will be followed by child star Evelyn Rudie in Suspense’s “Dog Star”.

6pm ET (5pm CT, 4pm MT, 3pm PT) – Norman Corwin’s fantastic script, “The Plot To Overthrow Christmas” will be featured on the 1944 series This Is My Best starring Orson Welles.

First of all a change from my earlier planned schedule. We will pay tribute to M*A*S*H & Dragnet actor Harry Morgan with a two-hour special featuring some of his radio work. Morgan died on Wednesday at age 96. You will hear him as the narrator, Mystery on two 1947 episodes of Mystery In The Air starring Peter Lorre and Peggy Webber. Peggy will also join my by phone to talk about Morgan. I also have him in the role of a corrupt riverboat captain in a 1950 episode of This Is Your FBI.

The Wild About Harry  tribute airs on Sunday (12/11) at 8am ET (7am CT, 6am MT, 5am PT) and again Sunday evening at 8pm ET (7pm CT, 6pm MT, 5pm PT). There also will be a special West Coast encore Tuesday (12/13) evening at 11pm PT and a final broadcast on Wednesday (12/14) at 4pm ET (3pm CT, 2pm MT, 1pm PT).

A number of Christmas themed episodes are also playing this week as we build toward wall-to-wall Christmas offerings beginning on Sunday the 18th and running through Christmas Day.

The highlight this week is the 70th Anniversary Of The Attack On Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (December 7th, 1941). I have two different two-hour special airing to pay tribute to the event. While they debut in the regular rotation on Sunday; the main broadcast occurs at 8pm ET (7pm CT, 6pm MT, 5pm PT) on Wednesday, December 7th and continues for four straight hours. I will bring back Norman Corwin’s “We Hold These Truths – Day Of Infamy” special and Lux Radio Theater’s radio version of “The War Against Mrs. Hadley”, and also feature Corwin’s script “Between Americans” hosted by Orson Welles and debut a new to the channel Corwin series – One World Flight which chronicled his 1946 around-the-world trip. In the final half-hour of each two-hour block, you’ll hear some new interviews I conducted with radio actor, Cliff Carpenter and writer/director Michael Kacey as they remembered Corwin (He died back in October at age 101.)

We also have a number of high profile birthday week tributes including Kirk Douglas (He is 95 on the 9th!); Arch Oboler (Lights Out); Agnes Moorehead (Suspense, The Shadow); producer/director William Spier (Suspense, Sam Spade); author Dalton Trumbo (Johnny Got His Gun); Dorothy Lamour (guesting on Bob Hope Show & Jimmy Durante Show); writer Cornell Woolrich (Suspense, Screen Director’s Playhouse) and composer Alexander Courage (Broadway Is My Beat, Star Trek.)
