Les Tremayne (The Falcon, The Thin Man)

If you haven’t grabbed it yet, the new weekly schedule can be found by clicking to see Full Story & Pictures and then the following link; ShowSchedules

Some major radio stars were born this week so that’s a perfect excuse to also debut some wonderful new to the channel episodes from various series.

For example. we have Hans Conried featured on the very creative CBS Radio Workshop‘s “Interview with Shakespeare”;  Betty Lou Gerson is being celebrated with two new episodes of The Whistler – the first “The Human Catalyst” co-stars Tony Barrett and in the second “Sleep, My Pretty One” she supports Willard Waterman (aka the second Gildersleeve).

Other birthdays -  Bob Hastings (Archie Andrews, X Minus One) still with us and turning 88!  Arthur Lake (Dagwood in The Adventures of Blondie); Joan Alexander (Lois Lane in Superman, Ellen Deering on Philo Vance, Detective); Al Hodge (The Green Hornet) and Les Tremayne’s Centennial (The Falcon, The Thin Man).

We also have a few movie stars birthdays – William Holden, John Hodiak, Wendy Barrie and John Gielgud (he stars in multiple episodes of Sherlock Holmes).

And if you catch this week’s Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar Marathon (The Alvin Summers Matter) stick around afterwards and catch a new to the channel offering of the female led detective series, Candy Matson.

Just curios. Are there any recordings of the old Bob and Ray show? They were one of the most original performers way back in the day. Thanks

  2. Tim says:

The Fibber McGee and Molly block was awesome. They are one of my favorites. I never knew how much of a vital role they not only played in radio but also, and probably more important, in society during the 40s and 50s. They are even credited with helping the GI’s win WWII. I only imagine families of that time gathering around the radio to tune in to each new episode and sharing a great laugh. And it being broadcast overseas by the Armed Forces Radio Network must have been a huge escape for all the military so far from home. Them asking for everyone to chip in and spare what they could, recycle and volunteer went a long way. People really don’t recognize or credit them properly for all they did.

That sure is a big gun for lil ol’ Betty Lou Gerson. I liked the Candy Matson episode. Hopefully there will be more in the future.

I missed this episode. I will try to catch it at another time slot. I have seen it advertised in Radio Classics catalogue and tempted to order it. Was reluctant since I’ve never heard an episode. Glad to see it on our schedule. Is it good or silly?

    • Lana says:

Candy Matson is a “tough guy” female detective. This was the second time that I heard her program.

  4. Cora says:

Will you be posting a list of the facebook favorites winning shows here at all?

  5. Will says:

I don’t see Marian Jordan’s Birthday above with the other stars.

    • Cora says:

Love the Jordan’s. Just might be my favorite comedy here.

Oops. If you check the schedule you’ll see I have a big special for her including two new to the channel Fibber McGee & Molly episodes plus Suspense Backseat Driver. I just forgot add her picture a blurb about her. Mea Culpa.
