On to the week at hand:

We are marking the 50th anniversary of what is traditionally called the final evening of The Golden Age Of Radio. On September 30th, 1962 the final two regularly scheduled radio drama episodes aired. In the first half of the tw0-hour special, we are debuting on the channel those two productions. They are Suspense – Devilstone and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar – The Tip-Off Matter with Mandel Kramer. I have then filled out that two-hour block with the premiere episodes of those very same series for a little “first and last” tribute.

Birthday week tributes for Carole Lombard, Deborah Kerr, Bud Abbott, Groucho Marx, Janet Gaynor, Barton Yarborough, Lamont Johnson, announcer Tony Marvin, singer Kenny Baker and writers Mel Dinelli and Damon Runyon.

Additional new to the channel episodes from Let George Do It, The Jack Benny Program, Dennis Day Show, Hawk Larabee, Gunsmoke, The Saint, Our Miss Brooks, Mr. District Attorney, The Whistler, Fort Laramie, Frontier Fighters and more.

Tuned in on Saturday to hear the End of Golden Age 6pm EST block and what do I hear? Abbott and Costello. Not the first time the wrong programming’s been running in the wrong time slot…won’t be the last, I’m sure.

  2. Cora says:

First and last of two of my favorites. Suspense and YTJD. Thanks, Greg. Nice block.
