Yes folks, RadioClassics Channel 82 is online now as part of the Sirius XM internet service (and available on the Sirius XM Phone App)!

I want to thank all of you for your patience and persistence it this issue. I have shared with the “higher-ups” literally thousands of listener emails asking for the addition of the channel to those services, and that was a big help it getting it done.

This marks the second week of the addition of the regular radio series, When Radio Was to the satellite radio channel. I realize the format for it is different (it was designed for radio stations formats) but please understand the addition of this show was part of a much bigger deal with our exclusive content provider, Radio Spirits which facilitated the inclusion of Channel 82 to the Sirius XM online service and mobile device app. Plus lots of “new” content will be coming to the channel in the near future.

While some parts of When Radio Was will be quite familiar (same host, some of the same series and episodes) there is new stuff on it every week as well, and you will finally be able to get involved in ongoing serialized series, if you like. For example right now we are featuring the soap opera Mary Foster, The Editor’s Daughter on Wednesdays and Chandu, The Magician on Thursdays.

This first week of April brings with it birthday celebrations for Bette Davis, Jack Webb, Gregory Peck, Spencer Tracy, Frances Langford, Lou Merrill, John Brown, Maurice Tarplin, Bea Benaderet and Fran Carlon. We also welcome back Major League Baseball with some annual traditions including Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig in Lux Radio Theatre’s “Pride Of The Yankees” and hall of famers Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson stopping by The Bob Hope Show. Also, Brooklyn Dodger manager Leo Durocher on The Jack Benny Program and Bud Abbott and Lou Costello perform “Who’s On First”.

Congratulations on the great agreement with Radio Spirits and running “When Radio Was” at the consistent Noon (eastern) slot. Although you can never make schedules to everyone’s perfection satisfaction level, this steady engagement hybrid is in this radio programming director’s opinion JUST BRILLIANT! Kudos also with convincing the SiriusXM suits to add the channel to online / mobile. Great job, Greg!

Start times…all of my recorded top of the hour programs were chopped by about 10-12 minutes….

    • GregBell says:

Ya picked a bad day to record, didn’t ya Mike! All is fixed this morning, but since the glitch was actually caused Sunday evening, it was too late to catch it without dropping a scheduled show, so it was slowly fixed over time on Monday. Sorry.

  3. DaHermit says:

It’s rare that I get disappointed with the shows on this channel, but I looked at next week schedule and saw that the Great Gildersleeve Easter program from 1957 was not in the line-up. It’s the one where “Gildy” reads the account of Jesus’ Crucifixion from the Gospel of Mark. It is a very moving episode, and one that I hope to share with the Sunday School class I teach.

Greg, I hope next week’s schedule is not “etched in stone” and a program could be changed so this one could be added.

    • GregBell says:

It is part of When Radio Was ran yesterday and today at Noon ET

I stand corrected. I took another look at this week’s schedule, prior to your reply, and saw that it was to be aired as part of your “When Radio Was” program, so in the words of Roseanne Roseannadanna NEVERMIND! Please accept my humblest apology.

I too noticed that the start times are off was wondering what has gone wrong here

  5. Eric R says:

It’s been like that since this morning. Strange. Not sure when it will be corrected, but it’s not too distracting.

  6. Will says:

The programs seem to be starting at 12 minutes after the hour.
