Wow, the last week of August and the last week of Summer (well at least for most school kids!) This week also marks RadioClassics 11th year on the air. It began on the XM side on August 26th, 2002, and is the only one of the four channels that launched that day still airing on satellite radios (The others were Sonic Theater, Playboy and The Village which is still around but internet only on channel 741.)
Happy and thankful to still be rolling along, and I am hopeful we will be for much longer! Thanks to all of you for your support!
Leading off the highlights this week are a number of new to the channel episode from the following series among others: Defense Attorney (with Mercedes McCambridge); Candy Matson (with Natalie Park Masters); A Day In The Life Of Dennis Day; Phil Harris & Alice Faye; Suspense; The Screen Director’s Playhouse; CBS Radio Workshop; Mystery Is My Hobby; Sam Spade; The Whistler; Hopalong Cassidy; Damon Runyon Theater; Fibber McGee & Molly; The Red Skelton Show…
Birthday tributes for Lurene Tuttle (The Whistler; Sam Spade, Red Skelton Show); Fred MacMurray (Suspense, Bright Star); Raymond Massey (NBC War Bond Parade special); Ann Whitfield (Little Phyllis on Harris & Faye Show); Larry Thor (Broadway Is My Beat); Van Johnson (Suspense); Willard Waterman (The Great Gildersleeve, The Whistler); Charles Boyer (Screen Director’s Playhouse, Suspense, Bergen & McCarthy) and a belated birthday for voice of Fred Flintstone, Alan Reed (Life with Luigi, Fred Allen Show, CBS Radio Workshop, Philip Marlowe).
